Mundane update

The LAN party has come and gone, frustrations and ecstasies alike. Natural Selection is my new favourite Half-Life mod. Well, that and I'm probably going to put Homeworld 2 on my gift list for Winter Solstice. Very pretty.

Finished Lois McMaster Bujold's Paladin of Souls on the weekend. Like the last book in this series, The Curse of Chalion, she went for the romantic angle at the end. My feeling is that it's not strictly necessary and in Curse it came very close to being a bit too ham fisted (but she always manages to dodge somehow!). This one felt more reasonable for such an ending somehow. Perhaps because the character comes to this realization in easier stages. The story was, of course, excellent. That was true of Curse as well if I ignored the sappy ending, but nothing felt out of true for this story.

Maybe I've read too much of her stuff, but it was easy to spot the romantic misdirection near the beginning when she arrives at the story's main setting, the character who would be her true love, the obvious solution to the problem, and what was really going on during the final "quest" (a little surprised the character herself didn't guess, but LMB laid appropriate groundwork so this wouldn't be unbelievable). Or maybe it was that the book was actually a variation on "Sleeping Beauty" in drag.

That's only because I was kicking your ass at Snow Wars.

Regarding Homeworld2 ...

Be sure to check out this page first:

Video card compatability for Homeworld 2

Uh, that page points to a 'No One Lives Forever' compatibility discussion. I suspect it's relevant to your point, though, as it relates to the use of 'Transform & Lighting' in NOLF. They're probably using similar effects in HW2.

The author had pointed to that link from another link regarding specifically to HW2. Of course I no longer have the original link.
