I'm not going to class tonight. Believe it or not, I pulled my foot in class on Friday. This is a real first for me. I've pulled my groin. I've pulled my hamstring. This is the first time I've pulled a foot.

We were doing an exercise from kneeling where my partner would grab both my wrists and a third person would lean on my partner making it harder to move them by muscle alone. Between the two of them we were probably pretty close to 400 lbs leaning on my wrists. I fell over backwards and slightly to the left (I didn't want them to fall on me), this put a lot of strain on my right foot which was still pinned under me.

It was pretty good the next day and now I can walk around and go up and down stairs without hardly noticing. But I'm not confident enough to go to class with it like this.

In (sort of) related news, I also went to see the doctor on Monday. About three years ago I sprained my left wrist in class. It was probably the most specific injury I've ever had. Exactly one tendon in my whole wrist was sore (the one leading to the back of the thumb). Well, about a year ago I got a small lump on the front of the wrist just under the thumb and lately it's been kinda sore.

The doc confirmed that it was a ganglion and that he didn't think it was bad enough to do anything about. He did express some surprise about the location of it. Basically, unless it presses on a nerve or impedes mobility in the wrist, he'd rather not do anything with it.

So colour me lumpy boy lug foot. :-)

Hope the foot gets better soon!

I had a ganglion on my left hand once, at the specific location where my left hand rested on the corner of the Sun keyboard I was using at the time. I got a wrist rest for the computer, and a while later, the lump disappeared all on its own. It might be that your ganglion isn't related to your old injury, but to something trivial like this.

Fortunately, this lump is not where I might lean on it while typing. The stress of typing a lot or gaming can irritate it, but it's not actually in contact with the keyboard at home or at work.

On the other hand, it's very close to exactly where nage might put their thumb during shihonage. Yonkyo is a little further up the wrist, so that hasn't been a concern (thankfully).
