New pack, new boots, and a new water bottle.  The pack was marvelous.  The boots were okay but I did get some blisters on my right heel (not the spot I thought I'd have trouble with!).  The new water bottle is dented and sits too high in the belt holster (it rubs on my elbow when I'm walking with the hiking poles), but it leaves less aftertaste than the nalgene bottles.

Also, I have pictures.

Awesome images.

I'm wondering about walking poles for street walking, in the light of my permanent knee problems. [Walking more seems generally good although incomplete therapy - my knee joints still feel too insecure for aikido :-(]

I mostly use the poles for the up and down parts of the walk where a little additional support will help me conserve my strength. The biggest problem with me on the hike is that my legs will be tired when we hit downward stretches and then my knees will bother me. They're also good for those spots with lots of loose rock or scree where the additional support might mean the difference between just stumbling and a turned ankle.

I don't think they'd make that much difference for me in the city. But that's me.

The Lakeshore Trail is a pretty easy hike, really. The hike up to Aylmer Pass is kind of unrelenting. Just up, up , up until we got to the spot where we stopped for lunch.

And the mosquitoes were ferocious.

Yeah, it was quite a lot of fun. And they're fun people to hike with. Maybe next time the mosquitoes won't be so ferocious and we'll be able to actually, you know, hang around and talk.
