Yeah, so I haven't written anything in a while.

[livejournal.com profile] mouseman and I went sheet music shopping on Saturday. I actually bought some stuff. For one thing, I picked up a copy of Für Elise. I had this piece memorized during a summer home from university. But that was my Mom's sheet music and I didn't have a copy of my own. I'd since forgotten how to play it, so it's nice to have my own copy. A fair bit of it came back right away. It's also interesting to read the notes that came with it.

We went out to [livejournal.com profile] purplejavatroll's Mom's place for her b-day. I got thinking about something relating to small boys since her nephew, Geran, was there. I really have very limited experience with small children below the age of about 5 or 6 and even at that I haven't had to deal with a room full of 6 year olds for, oh, seven or eight years. But the three or four boys of about 3 years that I've now had "visiting" experience with actually all acted very similarly. The first couple of times I sort of assumed that maybe they were just basically wild, but now I'm starting to think that this is normal socialization for them.

It's fucked up thinking like this that makes me glad I decided not to have kids. I think I would either have been some sort of nightmare father or I'd have raised a homicidal maniac. Don't let the nice guy exterior fool you into thinking I'd produce polite well-behaved children. Give them to me when they're 6 or so and I mgiht be able to make them do push-ups and situps (for some value of those words) and stand in rows (if your notion of "row" isn't too straight). Maybe that's the most anyone could expect? The control freak in me wants more than that and who knows what 8 or 16 hours a day of contact would make me do.

Well, off to work.
